On September 10, the 2025 Guangzhou Development District Intelligent Manufacturing Summit was successfully held in the Huangpu District of Guangzhou. This high-profile event, co-hosted by the Guangzhou Development District Investment Group, the Huangpu District Embodied Intelligent Robotics Industry Development Promotion Association, and the South China American Chamber of Commerce, brought together leaders and experts in the field of intelligent manufacturing to explore new opportunities for industry transformation through AI-driven innovation.

The theme of the summit, “Intelligent Innovation Drives New Engines, Bringing Global Opportunities Together,” emphasised the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and smart manufacturing technologies to revolutionise industries. The event saw the participation of renowned scholars, industry leaders, and representatives from Fortune 500 companies, all engaging in in-depth discussions on key topics like AI-powered industrial upgrades and international cooperation.

At the event, Harry S. Sia, Chairman of the South China American Chamber of Commerce, shared insights on the resilience of China as a top global investment destination despite current economic uncertainties. According to the Chamber’s 2025 Special Report on the South China Economy, 39% of surveyed enterprises consider China their first-choice investment location, with 58% of foreign enterprises ranking China among their top three global investment priorities. In fact, 61% of surveyed companies have already reinvested in China by 2024, with an estimated reinvestment budget of $14.59 billion in the next 3-5 years.

One of the key highlights of the summit was the speech by Neil Bush, Founder and Chairman of the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations, who advocated for building a "Pacific Century" through deep digital collaboration. Bush emphasized the need for international partnerships to tackle global challenges, such as supply chain resilience, climate change, and cybersecurity. He proposed three intelligent collaboration models:

  1. Innovation Ecosystem Clusters: Connecting global innovation centers to create cross-border thought markets.

  2. Industry-Specific Alliances: Integrating resources and technologies in fields like agricultural tech to develop smarter, more sustainable supply chains.

  3. Regulatory Sandboxes: Encouraging cross-border experimentation with new technologies in controlled environments.
